For the many years that I had worked with people and their grief, and all of the studies I had undertaken I still wished for a program that was more down to earth and practical and could actually potentially make a real difference to people’s grief and their healing. I had this personal desire to assist someone who was suffering from loss and grief.

What won me over was a simple sentence in their literature – “the training is designed specifically to assist all who wish to help those with broken hearts end their pain and reclaim their lives”.

When I was in training, I heard another favourite saying “Grief is not an intellectual experience”, and then Russell said we have to encourage people to get out of their heads and into their hearts.

John and Russell’s quote: “Grievers don’t wind up at our door with broken heads, they arrive with broken hearts.”

The training is exclusively focused on helping people deal with what remains emotionally incomplete at the time of a death, a divorce, or other loss.

People are amazed when I discuss the other “non-physical deaths”, such as

  • Divorce
  • Separation
  • Job loss
  • Illness
  • Changing address
  • Romantic breakup
  • End of friendship
  • Dementia
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Miscarriage
  • Inability to become a parent

There are two modes in which the Grief Recovery Method® are facilitated, they are either one-on-one sessions, or a group session.  Each mode is based on The Grief Recovery Handbook and I work with each person to assist them to resolve their grief.
